Painting & Coatings
Whether you need standard paint or something special, our team and paint facilities can handle hardware from small to large. We prepare the surface with all the necessary details before priming and applying the coating. Along with standard coatings, our team is experienced with conductive, electrostatic discharge, rain erosion, and other specialty coatings.
While we love the look of a great composite part fresh out of the mold, your needs may require coating it, painting it, or bonding it to other materials. In each of those cases, the surface will need to be prepped. We handle all the details including fillers, pin hole fills, water break testing, and sanding.
When parts require grinding or sanding the surface, these processes generate a lot of tiny particles which can easily float into the air. If not contained, these particles could containment other processes. At Rock West, we have a very large grind and sanding booth that captures all the particle emissions and keeps them away from our clean rooms and other operations.
Centerless Sanding and Grinding
Sanding can also be used to adjust sizing such as reducing the outer diameter of a tube. We have centerless sanding and grinding that can be used on our off-the-shelf and custom product to achieve high tolerances, +/-0.002”-0.010” for grinding and +/-0.005”-0.020” for sanding.
Unlike many composite manufacturers who outsource their painting work, at Rock West we do most everything in-house, from up-front prep work to finish and polish. With our years of experience, we know what primers, coatings, and paints work best for any material we use. Our large 16 x 24 foot Paint Booth makes small work out of the biggest parts. In addition to standard paint, here are some of the more specialized finishes Rock West provides:
- Polyester coating
- Epoxy coating
- Polyurethane coating
- Silicone coating
- Fluoroelastomer coating
- Powder coating
- Ceramic coating
- Conductive coating
