Design Considerations
Engineers face unique challenges when designing radomes, whether it is for aircraft, ships or ground-vehicles. Some considerations that can impact design include:
- Minimal RF attenuation/low loss of signal
- Broad bandwidth
- Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) filters
- Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS)
- High transmission
- High power
- High temperature (-65°F to +185°F, or >1000°F)
- Overheating of the radome or the antenna
- Strength and precision
- Damage tolerance
- Rain and particle erosion
- Lightning protection
- Bird impact
- Hail impact
- Manufacturability
We Design for Your Bandwidth
Our high-performance radomes can be designed to work in the following bandwidths and more:
L-band, S-band, C-band, X-band, Ku-band, Ka-band, Q-band, E-band, V-band, W-band, in addition to multi-band and multi-spectral.*

CASE STUDIES
X-Band Belly Radomes For Commercial Aircraft
Low-loss RF radomes of the size needed for this commercial aircraft are typically expensive to build. Most suppliers who can provide the services needed from start to finish are larger businesses with long lead times. We were able to provide our customer with complete services and a rapid turnaround from the drawing board to flight qualified hardware.
Broadband High-Speed Radomes
The US Navy wanted a nose radome that could withstand the high temperatures of supersonic flight and have broader bandwidth. Nose radomes on supersonic missiles are typically made from ceramic materials, but to achieve broader bandwidth in a radome, engineers traditionally look to sandwich constructions. Our engineers found a way to solve this problem in a highly manufacturable and cost effective way.
Radar System Ku-band Radome Cover
RWC worked closely with the customer to meet required structural needs and bandwidth. Cost and speed of delivery were significant driving factors. The radome also needed to be machined, finished, and painted with a MIL-SPEC coating. Over 300 units have been delivered.
